Nolans life cycle model: An Instrument for IT/IS Planning

Abstract :
In this paper we study Nolan’s life cycle models and explain it as an Instrument for IT Planning. In this world that competition is developed libertine, use of IT to access to competition advantage is necessary for all companies and is a more important key for companies' survival guaranty. However use of IT costs a lot, implementing unplanned IT probably burden heavy problems to companies. So the organizations try to decrease these threats and access to IT opportunities, using IT planning to implement IT/IS. Environment produces different opportunities and threats to companies. So organizations should recognize all their characteristics and use of opportunities to decrease threats. Although we have different models and methodologies that explain all of IT/IS implementation stages, but Nolan’s life cycle model is a more important and famous in IT/IS planning stage. In this article we explain Nolan’s life cycle model and finally we explore relationship between managerial styles, participation and system success in each stage of model.
